Gathering #21

What a FUN get together we had for June! Everyone had a challenge piece to share. The challenge was "Do a monotangle with shading" and everyone chose a tangle, and went for it. Lots of really good work.

This time around, we had Dave, Lisa, Leslie, Lorraine, and Heidi. Josie wasn't able to be there, thanks to some serious rock hunting related sunburn. Time to rest!

We gabbed about lots of things, and learned some tricks for mastering that wonderful pattern, Skye. That is one fun tangle!

People seem to be enjoying working on toned paper, and that was our challenge for next time: do a piece on black paper.

Lorraine graciously shared her needlework for us to see.

Lorraine is an accomplished needle worker, with a variety of counted cross stitch and embroidered pieces. She brought some of her stuff to show us, and everyone was impressed. It is easy to see that Lorraine has a real passion for fibers, and fabrics...it shows in her work.

Intermountain Tanglers info.

The Intermountain Tanglers, (IT) is a gathering place for Zentangle® artists in the Salt Lake area. This blog's primary purpose is to keep member artists updated on current meeting information. It will be updated if sudden changes occur in Times or locations of Meetings.

Our current schedule is to meet on the Second Sunday of each month. (Check the "IT Gathering Update" panel for last minute changes) We are trying to keep the meeting times from 3:00 pm to 5:pm. Our current location is the Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft store on Redwood Road at 5970 South. The maximum number of attendees will be around 12 Tanglers, but a few more may be accomodated. Due to this variable, we are forced to enforce a strict RSVP policy.

Our first meetings have been a lot of fun. Getting together as Zentangle® artists is so enriching, educational and entertaining that Heidi and I both wanted to join a gathering of artist like those which occur in other cities. None were available on Web searches in Salt Lake. So we started our own group, without guidance, or foreknowledge of what to do. We are trying our best to make it a rich experience for folks interested in this awesome art form. I would expect that there are groups in the Salt Lake area that are getting together to Tangle and socialize, but they are on an invitational only basis.

Meeting Details

Why are we meeting on SUNDAY?

(JoAnn's has graciously booked us into their in-store class room. This is a great facility and will give us the room we need to expand. This is the classroom that Jo-Ann's uses for all their classes. The only day with any available class time is Sunday. If you can work the Gatherings Sunday Meeting Time into your schedule, you will find it to be a wonderful relaxing activity to participate in. We realize the sensitivities some have about Sunday schedules. If we find an adequate meeting place on another day of the week, we will look into it enthusiastically.)

What to bring with you to the Gathering?

Bring some basic drawing supplies and materials, as we will be drawing during the time we have together. Also bring any tiles, sketchbooks or other artwork you'd like to share. If you have a project you are working on and would like to pursue that, please bring it with you.

The Jo-Ann Classroom.

Heidi and I have checked it out and we will have a great location for our gatherings. There are Twenty chairs in the class room, and usually six tables. The class room is located in the right-rear corner of the store.

You are allowed to have light snacks and drinks as long as things get cleaned up spic and span. We will also be able to move the tables and chairs around but are expected to put them back the way we find them.

This facility is available to us on a month-by-month basis. So please check this Blog each month for updates. I will still be sending out email reminders during the week prior to the Meeting Date.
